Academic Curriculum

Empowered Scholars
Alverno Girls are Empowered to Be Scholars. At Alverno, students may develop the ability and skills to succeed in the classroom and beyond through a broad and comprehensive college preparatory curriculum that meets the needs of each student. The use of technology including laptops, iPads, and SMART Boards provides our students with an interactive experience and hands-on learning in all of their courses. Strong in math, science, the humanities, and the arts, Alverno’s curriculum prepares our young women for admission to the nation’s top colleges and universities and guarantees their success once there.

Academic Philosophy
Alverno’s academic philosophy is to “educate the whole” student academically, spiritually, aesthetically, socially and physically while mindful of the values of the Immaculate Heart Community and our Franciscan roots. This is evident in academic, activity and Christian service programs.

Our mission is to empower students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds to pursue a college preparatory education. Reading and writing skills, as well as oral participation, are given great emphasis in preparing our students for the challenges of the larger world. Class activities address different learning styles and are designed to encourage student creativity.

To qualify for graduation and receive a diploma from Alverno High School, a student must earn a total of 255 credits (65 credits per year for 6.5 courses per semester) with passing grades in all subjects.
