Guidance and Counseling

At Alverno High School, we believe in the uniqueness of each student and her right and responsibility to achieve her potential. Through a variety of different guidance and counseling services, we are committed to educating the whole student by providing an environment where students achieve their highest potential through intellectual, social, and spiritual development.

Through various counseling programs, Alverno strives to encourage individuals to grow in awareness of their potential and to become lifelong learners with the capacity to be successful in a rapidly changing world. A distinguishing strength of Alverno is our model of assigning students a consistent counselor to work with throughout the entire high school experience. This connection nurtures our students as they transition through the academic and social expectations of high school. Additionally, this four-year perspective makes the college counseling process more personal, enabling our students to find the best individual college fit.

Technology and Learning

At Alverno High School we embrace the challenge and commit to 21st century technology learning to teach and implement a deepened form of communication and education through the use of digital resources for quality student learning in the classroom, in all program areas, and online. Through technology, teachers and students access a wealth of materials, services, and networks throughout the local, national, and global communities. Therefore, we will provide continual and improved technology infrastructure and systems that are participative, collaborative, socially just, and transparent in all of our technological endeavors.

All students have access to technology for instruction, research and creation in classrooms, computer labs and the library throughout each school day. There are student-accessible desktop and laptop computers on campus. Computer workstations are available before, during, and after school in the Library or Computer lab; school laptops are available for individuals to borrow. Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop or iPad for wi-fi connected use on campus. Alverno’s Class of 2018 is the first class who will be required to have a device on campus and the first to utilize e-books exclusively.

Every faculty, staff or administration member has a laptop or desktop issued to them by the school. Every classroom has a multimedia projector and speakers; document readers and SmartBoards are common classroom features. All classrooms have a television to deliver Channel One daily broadcasts.

Student Life at Alverno

Alverno Girls are Empowered to Be Involved. At Alverno, we believe that becoming an active member of the community enhances the Alverno experience for every young woman. Every student has ample opportunity and encouragement to become involved in activities at Alverno through membership in various clubs and organizations.

Beyond a strong, college preparatory education, Alverno campus life offers an outstanding range of athletics, arts, and other extracurricular activities which allow students to develop leadership skills, pursue individual interests and just have fun! Alverno encourages its students to reach out – to explore new horizons, to get involved in global concerns and to help shape ideas and technologies of the future. Alverno, as a girls’ school, gives students something unique – an environment where they can be themselves, strengthen their moral and ethical foundation, explore exciting challenges, develop deep and lasting friendships, and acquire competence, confidence, and strong leadership skills.

Alverno High school is a wonderful place where young women can develop and cultivate leadership skills which will advance them in their decision-making, both at school and in the world of which they are members.
